Fan staying on?

Hi .. My apologies if this subject has already been done ! Just purchased a 2016 TDCi .. wife came home from work today after an 8-10 mile journey and noticed that when she got out the car and shut it off , the car continued to ‘whirl’ for about 4-5 mins ? Never noticed it before .. is this quite normal .. or should I monitor it before calling the dealer ? Only had the car 3/4 weeks and not noticed it before .. Thanks all 👍

Garage
Hi birddn1 and welcome to the forum

Was it a really hot day? as fan can run on for a while after engine off, and then the fan cuts off when the thermostat decides its cooled enough.

if its doing this on average temperature days or cold days or doing it all the time, then its a problem and take it to the dealers if you have warranty. If not then an independent garage would be cheaper.

Why does my fan stay on?
It's normal for some vehicles to have a fan run for a few minutes after the car is shut off, generally to keep the engine cool. However, if the fan is running on for an over extended period, you may have a module or relay failing in your car.

Thanks Colin .. Good to be here 👍 .. Cheers for the reply .. it wasn’t a particularly hot day .. certainly not as hot as we have had recently .. and it never done it again this evening on the same run ? Will perhaps keep my eye on it and see how it goes and maybe pop back to the dealer if needs be .. thanks for your help mate 👍

Totally normal. It was part way through a DPF regen when she stopped.
