The latest way of getting fined automatically, is new seatbelt cameras being installed on Australian roads. The fine is points on licence* and a cash sum to pay, if the photo of yourself does not show you wearing a seatbelt.

Is it coming to the UK soon? more than likely it will be.
(* Licence points are called demerits in Australia)

PS...holding phone in car is also covered as a penalty. In the UK we should not be holding a phone at all while moving in a car.

Interestingly, I found a recent Facebook video* on a number of Australian drivers getting fined for supposedly not wearing a seatbelt through this camera technology, and the problem was that the seatbelt could not be seen by the camera, as the driver or passenger was wearing the same colour of clothing as the seatbelt, ie black seatbelt with black shirt, or white or beige seatbelt with similar coloured top. Many have contested the fine with some getting off.

Moral of the story is, if it comes to the UK, make sure your clothes colours clash with the seatbelt colour, so it stands out
