Hi, 2016 1.5TDCI with only 4k miles. The bonnet release under the steering wheel does its job fine but the yellow under bonnet release is just moving freely, its not releasing the bonnet catch and doesnt feel like its connected to anything.
The bonnet has only been opended two or three times for servicing so very surprised theres any issue and hope it is an easy fix.
Ford want £50 just to even look at it and diagnose the issue before charging for any fix!!!
Is there an easy way I can open the bonnet myself?
Anyone had this issue? Is it just a cable come unhooked and an easy fix?
Any help appreciated.

You should have an inch and a half gap when bonnet released, you push yellow safety catch to the right to release bonnet lid. the lever then spring returns back to initial postion for next time. This is safety feature to stop bonnet flying open if on the move, if primary bonnet catch fails.

Anyway, look into the gap with torch, you need to find the other end of the yellow levers mechanism which is fitted into the underside of the bonnet lid, stopping it opening, and release it from bonnet lid. Either use fingers or a screwdriver to push from the fixing on the underside of bonnet.

Once open: Now you can see what needs repairing, or worst scenario buy a new yellow lever mechanism.
You can live without it for a while, once you get the bonnet open, but do get it fixed or replaced, as it is a safety item.

If the above is too difficult for you, go to a local garage and the mechanic will open it for you in seconds, it is an easy job, bung him a tenner :D

You can then decide either to fix it or remove it if it is totally broken and later on get a new one.

Well done, I bet you were glad it was not the main puller broken to open the bonnet. It was only the secondary catch and left you that gap to reach in.

I have had a broken bowden cable before on a previous car and could not get the bonnet open at all, and had to get the front plastic grille off (and damaging it in the process) to reach in and open the bonnet, then replace bowden cable and fix plastic grille.

(a bowden mechanical cable is an inner cable wire inside a hollow outer cable, so the inner cable wire moves when pulled, but outer cable remains stationary)
